Tanjung Sepat Road Trip

A good friend recently took me to Tanjung Sepat just to have some seafood and explore the area to celebrate my birthday. Always loved the idea of exploring new places as each and every place has its own unique characteristics. It proved to be an enjoyable trip even if there were only two of us as there were many things to look at.

Along the Way

Cows Grazing Grass

Finally we reached Tanjung Sepat after about an hour and half drive from Petaling Jaya. We could tell that we are near the seaside when we started seeing some empty blue spaces in the sky, with nothing blocking the view.

After looking at some of the restaurants, we decided on Ocen Seafood restaurant which sits by the shore so you can enjoy the ocean view and eat. The food was indeed excellent especially the Oyster Omelette. Although the oysters in it are a little small but they compensate in terms of quantity and freshness. The seafood here is cheap and delicious. The total price for three dishes is less than RM40!

Tiny crabs are abundant here.

Footprints of the Waves

There were some living creatures in the muck. Mud skippers!

The wooden jetty is always a charming piece in any fishing village. The rough wooden planks placed together, well worn, faded with the rain, sun and saltwater, the wear and tear of shuffling feet carrying baskets of sea harvests onto the land and most of all, it is always almost never, perfect. Some planks may go missing, some a little broken and some may even give you a feel of a see saw when you walk on them.

Jetty

Fishing boats by the jetty. My friend was really curious with how the fishermen actually get down to their boats as the platform of the jetty is well over about 8-10 feet above the fishing boats. So happened that one of the fishermen was checking out on his boat and curiosity finally got into my friend and asked.

Moored Fishing Boats

The fishermen has to climb down using those large logs (made from coconut tree trunks) and slide down. I was definitely impressed on their agility as it was a little high and any fall, you would end up in the water!

We saw two brown dogs when we were there. They definitely look healthier than a lot of domestic dogs as there are plenty of space for them to exercise and explore. One was really having fun, chasing mud skippers and running  in the water. He looked so happy :)

Splashing Fun Time

There was this famous shop that sells Mui Choy Pau (preserved mustard greens buns). We had to wait nearly an hour for it and the customer before us bought over RM300 worth of paus.

On our way back, there was event going on or rather, it was ending. A sailing competition! Interesting to see so many sails with younger participants with much smaller sails towing their sail boats onto land and washing them.

Sails

And More Sails!

After driving a little further down, we saw some dead mangrove trees and it looks so picturesque. So we stopped the car and got down. Some traps were laid in the water and saw a trapped snake.

Tanjung Sepat is indeed an idyllic town with great and affordable seafood. Once again, thanks for planning this :)

Mayang Sari @ Dungun, Terengganu

Had to stop by for a night at Dungun before heading out to Tenggol Island. Heard that Mayang Sari is the best place in Dungun but not sure how true it is :p Couldn't really see the place in the beginning as we arrived at night. So the next morning, we woke up a bit earlier just to walk around.

Lobby

Garden Villas

We stayed at the 1 bedroom water villa for RM 50 per night for two. Which means RM25 per person which was really cheap. There were two single beds in the room. My buddy's bed had something crawling all over her when she slept at night. Not sure whether they are bed bugs but there were no bites.

The facilities include the tv, towels and attached bathroom.

However, upon going into the toilet, I saw that there were urine stains on the toilet seat :(((((( The pipes that was supposed to dispose the waste water from the sink is not complete thus, the water just flows to the floor. Washing your hands will dirty your feet. The curtains were a little moldy as well.

Pangkor Island Beach Resort, Pangkor Island

Love staying at the sea front resorts where you can enjoy the sun rise, the waves, the sun set, the crystal clear blue waters and many more!

The are surrounding the beach resort is dotted with large trees that provide shade from the hot sun.

We stayed at the Garden Wing, if not mistaken is the cheapest room but even then, it is really nice. There is even a balcony and in the morning when you look out of the window, you can see some hornbills perched on the trees just outside the room. Nice!

The Room

Four Wall Poster Bed looks really inviting :) Disposable slippers are provided and the room was really comfortable.

The Bed

The toilet have a bathtub and so you can enjoy a dip in there after all day activities.

The only thing that I did not like about the room is that it is located very far off from the lobby and

KL City Day Run @ Dataran Merdeka

I had my first ever and longest run at Dataran Merdeka last Sunday on the 22nd. There are three categories to choose from. 3 km, 7 km and 10km. Being optimistic, we chose the 10km one :p We parked our car at Lake Gardens and walked to Dataran Merdeka. The run was alright. Two hills to climb. I did not manage to run all the way I how I intend to. I stopped a number of times and continued running. I managed to get a finisher's certificate though. Not too bad :)

However upon returning to the car, we discovered our car was broken into. The bags were stolen. I was lucky as I only brought my identity card and my money and they were with me during the run. My other friend who was not so lucky lost his bag with his wallet in it. Another friend of mine lost her bag but luckily her wallet was with her during the run too. Just that she had a lot of sentimental belongings in her bag.

It was a long day as we were directed to different parts of KL to different police stations to make the police report. We had to meet up with the Investigating Officer based at Jalan Tun HS Lee that was in court that day and he was only back to his office around like 3pm. During that waiting period, we went makan at Yut Kee (roti babi yum yum), travelled down to Klang to collect my friend's car keys in our wet and sweaty clothes.

Need to be careful when parking the car at Lake Gardens. Do NOT put your bags into your car boot in full view while you are there. If you want to put it into the boot, put it there before you arrive in Lake Gardens.

Terry Fox Run 2008

This morning I attended the Terry Fox Run. My first time running at such event. I missed out on 2007's event due to a business trip. So the 2007 shirt became one of my comfy home shirts :p Got the 2008 shirt via the booth in One Utama New Wing at a donation cost of RM25. It was held in Lake Gardens and the run is inside Lake Gardens itself.

People..

..and more people!

The host of the event is Yasmin Yusof and Ida Nerina as the guest. It's a fun run and it's only 5 km.
No pressure == leisure :) Managed to finish the run within half an hour ++. I feel like the distance is less than 5 km. Even my friend agreed. Was just joking about maybe we unintentionally used a short cut or something...haha.

Anyhow, this is for a good cause to help fund cancer research. I saw about two runners with artificial legs in the run. My aunt passed away because of this disease. Hopefully they can find a cure for cancer. Will participating in more future fun runs.

Due to requests for pictures of the shirt from certain quarters, here they are! A little crumpled but good enough! :p

Hiking at Forest Research Institute (FRIM)

What to do on a lazy weekend? A healthy alternative would be going to FRIM situated in Kepong. It cost RM1 per person per entry and if you are bringing in your car, an additional RM5. If you would like to get their annual pass (for cars) with unlimited access, it would cost RM8.

FRIM

The place is well maintained and the small streams provide clean and fresh water to wash up after a long hike. There is even a Malay Teahouse that serve authentic malay food. Entertain yourself to a game of Batu Seremban(5 stones) or congkak or even checkers using the traditional bottle caps.Their Rendang Tok Janggut tastes good. Cost RM8.50 per piece and additional of RM1.20 per piece of ketupat. Their Mee Rebus did not fare so well at RM7.50. Service is very little slow though.

Table Setting at the Malay Teahouse

A perfect place to do a healthy hike and leisure.
