Kien Kee Spicy Soup@ Serdang

Kien Kee is situated near the morning market in Serdang. Park at the market area and walk over. Look out for the signboard that say Restoran Kien Kee and you are there :)

Entrance

The ambiance of the place is on the hot side as it is a one story zinc roof building. Opt for the air conditioned room but be prepared to fork out additional RM2 for that little comfort. Reminds me of Air Asia no frills concept haha.

Menu cum Price List

The spicy soup is full of fragrant fiery pepper taste with meat slices, pickled vegetables, chicken pieces and internal organs of the pig (optional but need to inform them). Every scoop of soup is well worth the sip as it is very flavourful. Thumbs up!!

Spicy Pepper Soup

Fah Tew Kai (Shaoxing Rice Wine Chicken) goes really well with the white rice as the gravy itself is very good. If not mistaken, they added the dark soya sauce as one of the ingredients. Kampung Chicken (which means free range chicken) is used here.

Claypot Rice Wine Chicken

The boiled vegetables is just normal. Need some vegetables to wash off all that meat!
Boiled Lettuce

Do come earlier to get a place for lunch as it can be pretty pack with people. Great to have the soup on a nice cold rainy day. Works better than whisky anytime ;)

Indulge @ Tropicana Mall

I always like having tea and desserts at nice cafes with pleasant ambiance where we can break into lovely lady chatter :) We ordered the Bread and Butter Pudding with Raisins (RM8). It was really disappointing as it is dry and tasteless. The vanilla sauce did little to make it taste better :( For the best tasting bread and butter pudding I came across so far would be from Found Foundry!

Bread and Butter Pudding with Raisins

The Marble Cheese Cake (RM8) was good. Nice and moist and creatively presented. Not too sweet.

Marble Cheese Cake

There is a 10% service charge. Overall this is a nice place to hang out and have simple drinks as it is really quiet. Not for the food though.

Restoran Logenhaus @ Taipan Subang

Logenhaus Restauran and Grill is located at busy Taipan in Subang.

Mix Grill (RM25.90) has a little bit of everything. There's ham, beef bacon, a slice of beef, a piece of chicken, a sausage, a piece of lamb, potato wedges and vegetables. The vegetables especially the asparagus bouquet is a little on the un-fresh side. The ham is a little on the salty side. Overall it is mediocre but value for money as they have nearly everything inside!

Mix Grill

The Tenderloin Steak (RM39.90) was good. The meat was really juicy. The yellow thing in the middle of the steak, if not mistaken is garlic butter. This meal comes with salad.

Tenderloin Steak

I would avoid the mix grill and focus on the steak next time. Oh, yea they actually charge service charge.

Hajime Restaurant @ Jalan Damai, Ampang

Nestled in middle of the city center, Hajime Tokyo Restaurant is located in the bungalow area of Ampang where the bungalows are turned into fine dining restaurants.

Some of their cutlery is cat themed which is really cute! :)

Cat Themed Tableware

There is this promotion going on to customize your own maki. Tried the simple Shake Maki (RM11) that is Salmon Roll which was really fresh. They have a few more types of ingredients to add but I forgot to take note.

Shake Maki

Delicious cold noodles! Three varieties! Smooth! Leisei Sanchoku Men (RM28) is cold noodles consisting of buckwheat soba, somen and green tea soba which was really good. Dip it into soya sauce and slurp it. So refreshing! This is a good combination to order so that you can taste the different varieties of noodles to know what are the textures and taste.

Leisei Sanshoku Men (from L-R: buckwheat soba, somen, green tea soba)

Black Spider Roll (RM20) was delicious. The soft shell crab is nicely fried and topped with plenty of salmon roe. It came in four large pieces. Wished that it could be more.

Black Spider Roll

Dragon Roll (RM28) was really huge. Deep fried tempura prawns smacked in the middle and topped with unagi and avocado. The taste was pretty explosive!

Golden Dragon Roll

Iidiako Salad (RM18) which is squid salad was good too. The dressing is not too heavy and more on the light side with plenty of fresh vegetables. However, it still can't beat the salad that I had in MOF in Singapore that I blogged about here.

Iidako Salad

Wagyu Roll with Shimeji Mushrooms (RM36) is excellent. The beef was well marinated with bits of crispy fried garlic. The beef wraps the fresh shimeji mushrooms and the combination really tasted really good.

Do make reservations as the restaurant is pretty packed.

Rosemary Bites Restaurant @ Aman Suria

A few doors away from the more popular Betty's Midwest Kitchen that serves Southern American favourites, Rosemary Bites serves American food from different parts of America. I do find that the food isn't really that special in the sense that it is a bit like normal western fare with pasta, steak and others.

The Ambiance

Classic Lasagna RM12.90. The lasagna is pretty alright. Not too sour nor too salty.

Classic Lasagne

Rosemary Chicken (quarter) RM 15.90 is richly spice infused chicken especially with rosemary herb that goes well with chicken. The portion is just nice for ladies but for guys, it is tad too small. The meat is tender enough and tasty. Plenty of greens on the sides and mash potatoes. However, the mash potatoes is not on the creamy side though.

A Closer Look

The Rosemary Lime (RM3) drink is a signature drink that infuses the rosemary and lime. Taste a little on the odd side but it is definitely something different.

Saba Restaurant @ Cyberjaya

An initial plan to go Al Jazeera because of a recommendation from a friend was changed because the place has closed down! Instead, walked down the row of shops to the other end where Saba is. Thus, we had middle eastern fare here instead.

Menu

Menu

Barbican (RM 3) is a non-alcoholic malt beverage that comes in several fruity flavours. However, it doesn't really taste like beer but more like soft drinks. There is peach, lemon, passion fruit, apple, pineapple, raspberry and lime.

Barbican

Hummus (RM5) is chickpea paste dip and the one in Saba is seasoned with olive oil and black pepper served with flat bread. It has a little sour taste maybe due to lemon juice. Loved the creamy texture but don't really fancy the taste. Someone actually said that the texture is like peanut butter!

Hummus

Chicken Hanith with Rice (RM10) set is wrapped in aluminium foil with spices. The rice used is the Basmati variety where it only swells sideways when cooked and the grains are separated. Butter is also used in the rice. The chicken is well spiced but it is a little too dry. The rice is very dry due to the nature of Basmati rice.

Chicken Hanith with Rice

A Closer Look

Grilled Chicken with Rice (RM10) is also served with the same rice as the Chicken Hanith. The grilled chicken is juicy and a little charred on the outside that lends it a little smoky flavour.

Grilled Chicken with Rice

Overall the food here is on the dry side. No service charge or tax!
